368 km paragliding: July\u2019s record flight on the Stodeus LogBook!<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Every month, the Stodeus LogBook<\/strong> highlights the community\u2019s finest flights. In July, it\u2019s Fran\u00e7ois Montuori<\/strong><\/a>, who has covered the longest distance with a magnificent 368.49 km route completed on 3 July<\/strong> !<\/p>

\u00abEver since I discovered flatland flying in France, I\u2019ve tried to go at least once or twice a year whenever I see that the day has potential. I really enjoy this style of flying; it\u2019s less demanding than flying in the Alps \u2013 you read the clouds, you play with the wind\u2026 it\u2019s very different from Alpine cross-country flying and it suits me well.\u00bb<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>

Accompanied by Justin Puthod and Andy Tallia, and joined by Alex Gignoux, Fran\u00e7ois takes off from Hou\u00e9ville. The group heads for Bourgogne, where the cloud base is rising and the thermals are strengthening.<\/p>

On the way to Dijon, the trio of Fran\u00e7ois, Justin and Andy get together to optimise their route:<\/p>

\u00abIt\u2019s loads more fun with a group \u2013 we can re-centre the thermals, play along the air currents and fly more efficiently. Equipped with aviation radios, we contact the St-Yan control tower, which clears us for passage, then head off towards St-Etienne, where the Lyon TMA forces us to descend well below the ceiling.\u00bb<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>

As the day drew to a close, the air became drier, the thermals grew scarce and the wind picked up considerably at ground level. After the group had split up, Fran\u00e7ois embarked on a real \u00absurvival\u00bb struggle on the outskirts of the Saint-\u00c9tienne CTR, completing his flight in strong winds after nearly 9\u202fh 30\u202fmin in the harness.<\/p>
